The Shed Men’s Ministry Event

On Friday 14 June our visit takes us behind the walls of the notorious Z Ward at the former Glenside Mental Hospital.

For almost 90 years it was home to those classified as ‘criminally insane’. Our guided tour explores the architecture and social history of this remarkable building.

We will car pool leaving the Trinity Church Adelaide car park at 9:15am travelling to Glenside to meet our guide for a 10am tour start. After our tour we are booked into the Arkaba Hotel for some good fellowship and another enjoyable lunch together.

Tour cost is $10, plus your meal cost as per menu choice. Bookings are essential to David Morgan (8337 3204) by Tuesday 11 June.

Please note: The upper level of Z Ward is accessible by stairs only.

Z Ward, Glenside

Neither prison nor hospital, the ‘criminal ward’ of the former Glenside Mental Hospital occupies a unique place in South Australia’s history. From the rare ‘Ha Ha Wall’ encircling the building to its striking 1880s polychromatic brickwork, explore the breathtaking architecture and sobering history of this important site.
